Why do PokerStars hire AI specialists?

An online gambling provider Stars Group from Canada, whose branch is PokerStars, requires employees for interesting work in the company’s offices in London and Dublin. A vacancy posted on their website called for engineers in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) research to help a potential employee with the opportunity to study the application of AI in the largest gambling community in the world.

The company declared that future employees will develop new products of the company, as well as explore the possibility of using AI for analyzing gaming strategies. Interestingly, the vacancies are described as being part of the poker innovation team, and thus will not be used to combat the banned software on the site. It is also unclear what poker products using AI can be discussed.

Requirements for the candidate are the presence of a master’s degree in computer science, knowledge of a game theory and C ++, as well as understanding of machine learning and development of AI technologies (preferably poker).

New employees will have to develop various programs using AI that ‘can play poker’ and possibly other games, which should help create new products for PokerStars. At the moment, there are available vacancies for the engineer and developer of poker AI, which will be tasked with “researching and applying AI in one of the largest gaming communities.”

In addition, the selected candidates “will work on creating some highly intelligent products that the poker room wants to bring to the market.”

It is worth noting that the newcomers will become members of the team engaged in poker innovations, not Team Integrity, which is struggling with the use of banned software. Therefore, specialists will work on improving and updating the game component of the poker room.

Previously, PokerStars did not show intentions to create bots, emphasizing that poker is primarily a game between people. Nevertheless, poker bots can be used to play against people, for example, within the framework of training programs or in an off-line version of the application that can become popular among users of mobile devices.
