The action takes place in New York in 1973; the main character is Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale), head of the record label, suffering from cocaine addiction, quarrel with his wife and the loss of his business acumen. A 45-year-old Cannavale took up the role with pleasure. He read books about music and the music industry of that time.
