Javier Gomez, Winner of 2015 Partypoker WPT Prague Main Event
The Spanish professional poker player Javier Gomez captured the title at the 2015 World Poker Tour Prague Main Event. Gomez won the 1st place prize worth EUR 175,000 and the USD 15,400 seat in the WPT Tournament of Champions.
The Prague Main Event started on 1st of December, boasted 6 days of play and attracted a number of 256 entries generating a prize pool of more than €712,000. Players in top 27 got their share of the cash, lowest payouts being worth €6000.
Day 5 of the World Poker Tour Prague saw 6 finalists fighting for the title. Bulgaria’s Fahredin Mustafov started as a chip leader and Henrik Hecklen, a Danish poker professional, was the short stack. The Danish player was the first to go, as he was elimintated by Gomez in sixth place. Henrik Hecklen received EUR 34,000 for his efforts.
Algeria’s Abdelkader Benhalima was eliminated in fifth place by Gomez. He received an amount of €43,200. The eventual champion got a big cheap lead due to Benhalima’s elimination. Gomez maintained the lead until the two-handed match.
Portugal’s Pedro Marques managed to finish fourth in the World Poker Tour Prague. He was eliminated by Gomez as well, and collected almost €57,400 for his efforts. Bulgarian Mustafov managed to win €77,600 for his eforts, winning the third place in the Main Event. He was eliminated by the soon-to-be-champion.
74 hands were needed for the game to reach only two hands from the total of six in the final. 138 hands later the game went to the heads-up confrontation between Moldova’s Pavel Plesuv and Gomez.
Read also: Brazil gives way to online gamblingThe two-handed match saw Gomez with 6.2 million in chips and Plesuv with 1.4 million. Pavel Plesuv took the lead for a while, then the game continued the same way for some time.
Hand #212 was the last one. The Moldavian went all in for 1.38 million and Javier Gomez called. Plesuv had [3s] [Ac] against Gomez’s [Ax][10c]. With the board running out [5c][6d] [Ks][5s][2d] the name of the champion was clear. Moldova’s Plesuv received a prize of €121,000.
Gomez received on December 6 the second largest prize in his career up to this point. Earlier this year, he finished fifth in the EPT Malta Main Event, taking home more than €205,000.
Javier Gomez now boasts over $440,00 in career live tournament earnings.
