In Utah the oldest casino in America was found in the cave
According to archaeologists, the cave in Utah may contain the remains of ancient tribal casinos in North America.
Among the artifacts found in the cave near Great Salt Lake, there are hundreds of primitive dice, carved sticks, darts, hoops, dating back to XIII century. Professor at University of Alberta, Jack Ives told Western Digs that he believes that the cave may have at least a thousand of these things that make this discovery “unprecedented in the western part of North America.”
According to the professor, the cave residents lived in relative comfort compared to their neighbors. In this regard, they have some free time, which they dedicated to such entertainments as gambling.
Difference between current gambling and old one
The dice, found in the cave, differ from today ones as only one face were inflicted with marks. Under assumptions of archaeologists, the ancient Indians threw eight bones simultaneously and counted the number of sticks that fell labeled side up.
For another popular game, a wooden hoop and dart feathers were used. One of the participants turned the wheel and the other was trying to get into it.

They made small bets, such as “objects of personal property or often used gambling to decide who will do some housework, for example, such as cooking.” However, men were not just passive observers, they were making bets on the outcome of the women’s game. According to Yanicki, through games the Indians solved much more serious problems. Dice could be used as a means of settling disputes with rival tribes “instead of more hostile interactions, such as a war.”
Gambling in the space
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of California’s tribal casinos, Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians, they are intending to send the slot called ‘Icarus’ into space under the guidance of JP Aerospace on June 14. To commemorate this event a party called Out Of This World will be held on June 27 in Soboba casino.
