Farmer without a penny won the Battle of Malta 2017
Tournament series Battle of Malta 2017, conducted by PokerListings site, was the largest in the history based on the number of participants and the size of the prize fund. The main event with € 550 buy-in collected 2,074 players, and the big winner was the farmer from Israel Nadav Lipszyc – he took home a record € 200 thousand despite the fact that he himself admitted in an interview:
“99% of players in this tournament were more experienced than me.”
Lipszyc was one of the four Israelis on the final table (this happened for the first time). The remaining five finalists represented the countries of Scandinavia.
Incredibly, but for Lipszyc it was only the second live tournament in his life – the first was the satellite in the main event that he won in Israel:
“I came here without a penny in my pocket. I barely had enough money for breakfast. “
The final table lasted five hours during which Lipszyc had a feeling that his soul left his body, giving way to the spirit of Daniel Negreanu:
“I think Negreanu moved into my body and played for me.”
Nadav Patrick Lipsyc became officially the sixth champion of Battle for Malta 2017!

The third place in the Battle was taken by the Norwegian player Asbjorn Elvevold, who received almost six-figure sum – € 98,000 for his efforts.
Recall that just at the final table there were four players from Israel, three from Norway and two from Sweden.
By the way, one Swede – Jonas Hähnert was at the finals of this tournament last year, but if then he took the last 9th place, this time he was slightly more successful – he succeeded to get the 8th place.
