Slot machines are losing their popularity

Maryland casinos get rid of slot machines, making space to table games.

The tendency that slot machines are not so popular with young generation has been noticed, which prompted casinos’ authorities to put away slots, as younger players prefer table games to slots. For example, the greatest casinos in Maryland – Maryland Live, Hollywood Casino Perryville and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore put away 1,350 slots in the last 15 months. This is about 16% of the general number of slots they have. The space appeared will be given to table games, other gaming amenities and restaurants, which are more profitable now.

The reasons and consequences

The existing situation with slots is typical for other states as well. In Nevada, the amount of slots was reduced from 217,000 slots in 2001 to 175,000 in 2015. This resulted in less profit by 20% between 2007 and 2014.

Different approaches to solution of the problems

Nevada’s governor, trying to overcome the problematic situation with slots, made a bill to develop interactive slots to appeal to younger players in such a way. It is supposed to use some skills if you want to win and not only to wait for your luck. There is a preposition to make special “gaming zones” to move forward to the demands of younger generation.

Although, Maryland chose a more old-fashioned way to attract the audience. It announce about new slots on the themes of popular TV programs, such as “Sex and the City”, “CSI”, “Game of Thrones”. Maryland Live also announced about the release of Giant Jackpot of $100,000 and even $97,797,57 was already won on May 31 on a 60-cent bet.
