SkyCity introduced free gaming site to New Zealand citizens
Certain concerns from the authorities appeared when the casino bookmaker SkyCity Entertainment Group in New Zealand ran a free gaming site.
Video poker, slot machines and table games were made available to all site visitors of Skycityonline.com for free, but the General Director of the Problem Gambling Foundation Graeme Ramsey doesn’t believe “in altruism” of the bookmaker. In Auckland Now Mr. Ramsey called this finding of SkyCity “just promoting” and “an effort to express yourself through a new form of advertising”.
SkyCity follows the modern demands of the gaming industry
On the other part, the company SkyCity has just decided to keep up with the market’s demands and use free-to-play sites as a vigorous tool in the publicity campaign. The start of the site was made this week with the help of the invitations sent to SkyCity’s Premier Rewards players, but everything won online is possible to buy in only in the land-and mortar casinos of SkyCity in the cities of Auckland, Queenstown and Hamilton.
Press Secretary of SkyCity claims that the company has taken all the measures in order to minimize the overuse of the site. So, operators have introduced a restriction on the possibility of recharge credits. Players can win certain prizes, vouchers and bonuses that they can use in casinos on the land.

The owners of the site explain that “SkyCity does not plan to use the website to create a client base and has no plans of transition to playing for real money”. Nevertheless, such words do not inspire confidence in Ramsey, who calls Skycityonline “a step in the wrong direction”.
However, SkyCity insists that their site is safe to play, as it is open only to gamblers who are older than 20, they also persuade that the research made says that Internet gambling is “out of touch with commercial and consumer reality.”
