Charlie Carrel – A young rising star of online poker
It is always difficult to predict who will be the next poker star. The fact is that there are a lot of reasons and circumstances for this, but this year a 22-year old University of Warwick student Charlie Carrel is worth our attention, as he has earned a fortune just 2 years after his first deposit of £10 was put on his online account.
When he put £10 in his online poker account and got £30 in 2013, he had no idea that his earnings would reach the amount of £1.5M. He quickly turned them into £1000 and was thinking about giving up. But luckily, he didn’t do that.
Now he can freely afford to give lavish parties or to spend time globetrotting.
Charlie left university after ten weeks of studying, although he had four A* at A-Level. He moved to his grandmother to Jersey, where he paid all his time playing poker online.
Charlie explains: “I was brought up in a household that didn’t have a lot of money, so I was taught the value of it from very early on. Had I not won that first tournament I would never have deposited again, and none of this would have happened.”
Now Mr. Carrel participates in tournaments throughout the world from Malta to Monte Carlo and Las Vegas. He informs his friends about his achievements at his Facebook page, giving accounts of his adventures in the Bahamas, Miami and Peru.

In May 2015, Charlie Carrel won £806,000 at the EPT High-Roller Grand Final in Monte Carlo. In September, he received the title of the Poker Listings’ Rising Star.
Charlie commented: “I have to pinch myself most days. I think about depositing that £10 a lot. It could easily have happened so differently for me. I think I have the potential to be one of the top players in the world. There are not too many people I would be worried about playing.”
His mother Jacqui is very proud of her son’s achievements. She told, “He started off with a tenner and never, ever, dipped into a different pot.”
